COURSE CONTENT

  • Forecasting: Forecasting Time Horizons, qualitative model and quantitative model, Decomposition of time series data, Naïve approach, Moving average forecast, weighted moving average forecast, exponential smoothing.
  • Inventory Control: ABC analysis, Pareto principle, Record accuracy and cycle counting, Economic Order Quantity model, Production Order Quantity model; Quantity discount Model.
  • Project Management:  Project Manager, Stakeholders, Project planning, Work breakdown structure (WBS), Project scheduling, Gantt Chart, CPM (Critical Path Method), PERT (Project Evaluation & Review Technique), Crashing (cost – time tradeoff), Project controlling
  • Quality Control: International quality standards, Cost of Quality, PDCA, Total Quality Management (TQM), Control Charts for variables and attributes, X-bar, R, p, np, c, and u charts. OC (operating characteristic) curve and sampling plan; Average outgoing quality.
  • Plant Location: Factor Rating Method, Location break-even analysis, Center of gravity method. 
  • Plant Layout: Types of layout, process oriented layout, work cells, Repetitive and product oriented layout, assembly line balancing.
    Production Planning and Control: MRP (Material Requirements Planning), MRP inputs and outputs; Short Term Scheduling, Assignment Method, Machine arrangement problems, Sequencing Rules: FCFS, SPT, EDD, LPT, Johnson’s Rule. 
  • Methods Analysis: Flow diagram, Process Chart, Activity Chart, Operations Chart, Process chart; Man-Material flow charts; Work station flow charts; Man-Machine charts. Motion study; Principles of motion economy; Simo chart.
  • Work Measurement: Historical experience, Stop watch and time study procedures, Timing methods, Performance rating, Work sampling procedures, Predetermined motion time techniques. Work Sampling
