Technical Seminar on Organic Rankine Cycle

Every year, ASHRAE NED student chapter work with aim of helping future professionals so that they can contribute positively towards society. For this purpose, ASHRAE NED organized a technical seminar on 19th November 2019. The timing of this event was from 11 am to 1 pm. This event was conducted in the main auditorium and there were around 500+ students as an audience in this seminar, these students were from main campus and LEJ campus of NED as well from various departments including Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing, Electrical, Textile, Automotive. We also had students from many different colleges and universities including ASHRAE Mehran University of Engineering and Technology as our guest of this event. Read More

Seminar on Green Buildings & Energy Modelling

Seminar on “Green Building Rating System and Energy Modelling” was held on 17th April 2015 at NED University of Engineering & Technology under the auspices of Mechanical Engineering Department and NED-DICE Energy Innovation Center.Mr. Shaheen Asif, PROJECT MANAGER/SUSTAINABILITY SPECIALIST, FOOTPRINT- S & A SUSTAINABILITY, Toronto, Canada, was the speaker. Purpose of this seminar was to provide awareness about the Green Buildings and their international design standards. Green Buildings are the structures that meet certain standards to reduce the consumption of natural resources.
Various renowned certification programs such as “LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)”, “Green Globe” and “Living Building Challenge” were presented. Read More

Seminar on Sustainable Energy and other Benefits from Harmful Waste

A discussion-based seminar on “Sustainable Energy and other Benefits from a harmful waste” was organized by Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) in collaboration with NED UET on October 16th, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00pm at the Video Conference Hall of Civil department. The main purpose for conducting this panel discussion was to highlight the great importance of energy related issues that are currently affecting our country’s growth and progress. The panel from SSGC comprised of Mr. Shahbaz Islam, Mr. A. Majid Malik, Mr. Saeed Larik and Mr. Madni Siddiqui, whilst the panel from NED University included Prof. Dr. Anjum Khalid (Professor, Mechanical Engg. Department), Mr. Fahim Uddin (Lecturer, Chemical Engg. Department) and Mr. Adnan-ul-Haque (Lecturer, Petroleum Engg. Department). The event started off with a welcome and motivational speech, and then followed by the panel discussion from both sides on the usage of bio fuels for provision of sustainable energy with the major focus residing on sea weeds and algae. They also discussed about the modifications in gas water geysers and gas heaters into solar water geysers and solar heater in order to save the natural gas and utilization of our coal reserves for gasification and its prospective implementation as a source of fuel. The panelists from SSGC outlined the key losses to their pipeline system that they have had to encounter in their operational mechanism and why energy conservation has become such a necessity in order to protect our environment.

Seminar on Sustainable Environment & Energy Systems (SEES)

Seminar on Sustainable Environment & Energy Systems (SEES) was given by Dr. Ali Muhtaroglu held at CIS Lecture Hall, NED UET on 23rd October 2014 at 3 pm. Prof. Dr. Ali Muhtaroglu received his B.S. from University of Rochester in 1994, M.S. from Cornell University in 1996, and Ph.D. from Oregon State University in 2007. His experience and research interests include renewable energy systems and low power system architectures. The seminar was very informative and interesting. In his presentation he discussed about implications of grand challenges in engineering including global sustainability issues and energy harvesting etc. A broader view of the 20th century’s greatest engineering achievements and challenges of engineering in the 21st century were mentioned. METU, NCC, SEES was the topic of discussion which was extended to SEES vision, mission, research interest groups and research on energy harvesting. Later the presentation focused on “Green Campus Initiative”, “Green Brain Contest” and its goals for 2017. Related aspects of sustainable energy, energy harvesting techniques including MEMS – 2nd Gen., Vibration Based Harvesters were elaborated. In the end of the session, he praised and acknowledged the research achievements of former graduates of NEDUET whilst studying at METU, NCC.

Seminar on Public Speaking – Season II

ASHRAE NED Chapter organized an informative seminar on Public Speaking to alleviate the stress of our audience who fear to speak publicly. It is extremely essential for engineering students to develop public speaking skills because once they step into professional world they will encounter numerous situations when they have to communicate to a large audience. The speakers discussed about various forms of public speaking, importance of vocal dynamics, significance of pronunciation and body language. The seminar also included a panel discussion in which people from different fields shared their valuable opinion about public speaking in their respective fields. The seminar ended with great Theatre “Sangsaar” performed by Green Veins. The event proved to be a great learning experience for the attendees.

Seminar On Space Exploration at NEDUET

Mechanical Engineering Department, NED University of Engineering & Technology arranged a seminar on Space Exploration; Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education. Ms. Zainab N. Cox (Member Technical Staff, Flight System Engineering) for Mars Curiosity Rover Project of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) delivered the lecture. She was accompanied by Mr. Philip N.Assis, Cultural Attache to Pakistan. Ms. Cox delivered very informative and illustrative lecture regarding her involvement in the Mars exploration mission. She explained the development of the vehicle and the challenges that her team faced in launching, following right trajectory, proper landing of the vehicle and the solutions that engineering team came up with. She emphasized the role of Mechanical Engineering and other disciplines in the activity. One of the mission objectives is to find any signs of water existence on the planet and potential causes of its end, she explained. She also discussed thermal differences on Mars, possible shift of human kind to other planet, heavenly bodies and gravity at Mars, along with environmental impact of space exploration. She also urged women to contribute in this field. The students found it very interesting and proposed to have such seminars on state-of-the-art matters more frequently. Prof. Dr. Afzal Haque, Vice Chancellor of NED UET, acknowledged the efforts of the team. NED UET is grateful to Ms. Zainab N. Cox, Mr. Phillip N. Assis (Cultural Attache) and Mr. Ali Chauhan (Cultural Affairs Manager) for arranging such interactive seminar.
