COURSE CONTENT
- Introduction to Manufacturing: Introduction to manufacturing processes, materials used in manufacturing and properties of metals.
- Sand Casting: Basic requirements of casting, heating, pouring, cooling, types of sand casting: green sand casting, investment casting. Cleaning and Inspection of cast product.
- Permanent Mold Casting (PMC): Pressure die casting and types: True Centrifugal casting.
- Metal Forming: Fundamentals, types, hot, warm and cold working. Bulk Deformation Processes: Rolling; rolled products, rolling types: engineering analysis of rolling, Forging: open die, impression die, engineering analysis of forging, Extrusion: Direct & indirect extrusion, engineering analysis of extrusion, Drawing; bar, wire, tube drawing
- Sheet metal forming processes: Shearing, blanking, piercing, notching, trimming, bending, drawing, embossing.
- Welding Processes: Fusion welding and its types: oxy-fuel gas welding, arc welding (shielded metal, gas metal, gas tungsten), resistance welding (spot, seam and projection), friction welding and ultrasonic welding, brazing and soldering.
- Fabrication of Plastics: Blow molding, Compression molding, Injection molding, injection molding machine, mold design and construction
- Conventional machining Processes: Turning process and its machining parameters, tool wear and Taylor’s tool life model, determination of tool life, milling process and its machining parameters, drilling process and its machining parameters, Single and multipoint cutting tools, grinding process, wheel dressing, honing, lapping, and super finishing operations. Determination of machining time and material removal rate for various machining operations
- Non-conventional and precision machining processes: EDM, ECM, and ultrasonic machining
