COURSE CONTENT
- Statistics and related measures: Introduction, Types of data & variables, data collection and presentation, tabulation, graphical representation, frequency distribution, bar diagrams, Pie-Diagram, Histogram, frequency Polygon, Box plot, Central tendency, Averages, mean, median, mode, quartiles, range, moments, Skewness, Kurtosis, quartile deviation, mean deviation, standard deviation, variance and its coefficient, applications in engineering
- Probability: Definitions, permutations and combinations, laws, conditional probability, Baye’s Rule, random variables, probability mass function, probability density function, moment generating functions, discrete (Binomial, Poisson, Hypergeometric, Negative Binomial) and continuous (Uniform, Exponential, Normal) probability distributions
- Sampling Distributions and Hypothesis Testing: Population and sample, parameter and statistic, Sampling distribution of mean, standard errors, errors, random sampling, sampling with and without replacement, sequential sampling, Central limit theorem, types of estimates, confidence interval, tests of hypothesis, Chi- Square distribution, one tails & two tails tests. Application in related problems
- Curve Fitting: Fitting of a first and second degree curves, fitting of exponential and logarithmic curves, related problems. Principle of least squares, second order Statistics.
- Regression and Correlation: Scatter diagrams, Correlation coefficient, Regression lines, Rank Correlation and coefficient, probable error (P.E), applications.
