Concepts of turbulence and its modelling, challenges in 3-D turbulent flow simulations, Ideal Turbulence Model, Instantaneous vs Mean Flow Characteristics, Scale of Turbulence, Reynolds-Averaged equations, Closure Problem, Eddy viscosity/diffusivity concept, RANS-based turbulence models, Algebraic models, One-equation and two-equation models, Advantages and limitations of Reynolds– averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) based model, Effects of compressibility on turbulence modelling, Wall Bounded Flows Modelling, Wall Function vs Wall Resolving approaches, Advanced modeling approaches, Detached Eddy simulation, Unsteady Reynolds– averaged Navier-Stokes simulations, Large Eddy Simulations, Direct Numerical Simulations, Probability Density Function Modeling, Advantages and disadvantages of advanced turbulence modelling approaches.
