COURSE CONTENT

  • Introduction: Solar radiation, extraterrestrial and terrestrial radiation, radiation on sloped surfaces, clearness index, average solar radiation, beam and diffuse components of hourly, daily and monthly radiation, average radiation on sloped surfaces, isotropic and anisotropic sky models, utilizability concept
  • Flat Plate Solar Collectors: overall heat loss coefficient, Temperature distribution between tubes, collector efficiency factor, heat removal factor, flow factor, air heaters, collector tests and efficiency.
  • Concentrating Solar Collectors: parabolic concentrators, CPC collectors, solar dish, central receivers, thermal performance, optical performance, optical characteristics, sun tracking.
  • Solar process Loads: hourly loads, hot water loads, space heating loads, cooling loads
  • Solar System Calculations: computations of system parameters for collector and arrays, systems models; Active, passive and hybrid systems, industrial process heat, solar ponds
